Mantis BS1 B floor lamp
$2,100.00
An admirer of Alexander Calder, Schottlander created the Mantis lamp series in 1951. Movement is at the heart of its design, conceived with an ingenious counterweight system combined with a structure of metal rods that are both robust and flexible. The lampshade, inspired by Calder's organic forms, evokes an acrobat suspended in mid-flight.
The BS1 B takes the iconic design of Bernard Schottlander's BS1 lamp, with a subtle but significant variation: it rests on a more compact cast steel base , instead of the classic tripod. This choice of structure maintains the visual balance and lightness of the original model, while offering a reduced footprint, ideal for smaller spaces.
With its sculptural, adjustable lampshade, the BS1 B perfectly illustrates the designer's approach: a dialogue between movement, functionality, and elegance. True to the spirit of the Mantis collection, it combines industrial poetry and technical refinement.
